SALVATION THROUGH THE LAW
There can be no doubt that the scriptures declare that salvation is by
grace. That means that salvation is by grace without any works of the law
done by the sinner. As boldly and as clearly as I possibly can, I tell
you that salvation is by grace and not by your works of the law.
But this is also true: sinners are saved by the works of the law. God
does not set His holy law aside when He saves His people. The law must be
satisfied. Sinners are saved by Christ’s obedience to the law.
God’s elect are saved through Christ’s works of the law. In this way God
is both just and justifier; both just and gracious. Salvation by grace
through Christ’s work is the only salvation that is both just and gracious.

Satan never more transforms himself into an angel of
light than when he sets up for a preacher of holiness in opposition to the
doctrine of grace; nor do his ministers ever more act the same part than when
under the guise of ministers of righteousness, or preachers of good works, they
endeavor to undermine and sap the foundation of gospel-doctrine.

THANKSGIVING
On Thursday, our nation will
celebrate a day of Thanksgiving. It will be a day of joy and feasting. Most of
you will be with your families. Your children and grandchildren will be home.
All over the country, our nation will show some gratitude to God for his
providential mercies. We will thank him for our liberty, prosperity, and peace.
Certainly, we should do so. God’s goodness toward us as a nation is abundant.
Even with all of her problems, America is still the happiest and most
prosperous land in the world.
But, my brothers and sisters, we are
citizens of a heavenly kingdom. And we have greater reason than anyone to give
thanks to our God. Let us rejoice and give thanks for our spiritual blessings
in Christ more than we do for our outward prosperity. Give thanks unto God for
the person of Christ and his rich grace. Give thanks unto the Lord for his
covenant mercy. Give thanks unto your God for your full salvation by Christ.
Give thanks unto the Lord for the fact that he has given you a place to worship,
where the gospel of Christ is loved and preached. Give thanks to our God for
all things in providence – “For all things are yours;…..And ye are Christ’s;
and Christ is God’s” (1 Corinthians 3:21, 23).
Do not let your thanksgiving be limited to
a day. But in everything give thanks at all times. Thanksgiving is the opposite
of murmuring and complaining. It is more than mere words. If we truly give
thanks to God, we live before him in love, joy, and peace. Being confident of
his goodness in Christ Jesus, we are content in all things. Thanksgiving is the
joy of faith in Christ. Don Fortner—from

GOD ONLY SAVES THE UN-PEOPLE!
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly.” – Romans 5:6
God only saves the
Un-People:
•
The unprofitable
•
The ungodly
•
The unrighteous

The undeserving

“The nation is
on edge” . . . This is
what some in the news media are telling us concerning the Coronavirus -
"The nation is on edge." I don't know how many are on edge; I doubt
there are very many comparatively speaking. What a freedom of heart it is to
live in the faith that our Sovereign God rules all things. There is not a grain
of sand outside of his control. Everything from Satan to kings to storms to
viruses etc. are controlled by the One who calls Himself our God - "I
will be their God and they shall be my people" (2 Cor.6:16). How could
anyone who can truly say, "This God is my God" be on edge
about anything? I know that is easily said. I know there are things that
trouble us. I know we are sometime afraid. I know that sometimes our poor souls
are like David when he complained, "Why art thou cast down O my
soul?" But then he gives the remedy for his cast
down-ness, "Hope thou in God." Live in the exercise of
faith and hope, and you can live in the freedom that your God in whom you
believe and hope controls all things. Bruce Crabtree

THE
NAME OF THE LORD
Ephesians 5:20: Giving thanks always for all
things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
It is
good we have a day to remind our nation to be thankful. But God’s saints give thanks always. We thank God “for all things” because all is
the gift of God. (Jn 3: 27) His unspeakable gift is his Son Christ. It is in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
that we give thanks because everything for which we thank God is declared in Christ’s
name: JEHOVHAH Jireh—the LORD will provide; JEHOVAH Rapha—the LORD that healeth
thee; JEHOVHAH Nissi—the LORD our banner; JEHOVAH Tzidkenu—the LORD our Righteousness;
JEHOVAH Shalom—the LORD our peace (Judg 6: 24); JEHOVAH Shammah—the LORD is there
(Eze 48: 35); JEHOVAH Ra-ah—the LORD our Shepherd (Ps 23). “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and
the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is
in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O
LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come
of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and
might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto
all. Now therefore, our God, WE THANK THEE, and praise thy glorious name.” (1
Chr 29: 11-13)
