THE NATURE OF SIN

Do men today know the true nature of sin? Do they know what sin is? I am saying that they do not know who God is and what sin is. Sin to the average person is a material thing; it is something that you wear or don’t wear, something you do or don’t do, something you say or don’t say or something that you eat or don’t eat.  These are all material things. How did Adam ever fall in the Garden of Eden when he didn’t have any of these things? He had no liquor there, tobacco, drugs, picture shows, dances, or clothing. How did he sin? What is sin?  Our Lord said, “It is not what you put in your mouth that defiles you; it

is what comes out of your heart.” The religious people got very offended at this. They got upset because their idea of sin was catalogued and laid out. They thought that sin was eating meat on a certain day, walking so far on a certain day and eating without washing your hands. This is how we talk about sin today; it is all outward things. My friends; sin is who you are more than what you do. Sin is why you do what you do. Sin is a principle and a nature within; it is a rebellion in the heart, soul, and nature against God. Sin is “coming short of the glory of God.”

THE FOOL HAS A PROBLEM

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…. Psalm 14:1

Just because a fool says there is no God does not make God nonexistent for him. God Is, and every Fool will have to face Him one day and give account. That is his problem.                                 Pastor John Chapman

“Other sheep I have which are not of this fold, them also I MUST bring,  and THEY SHALL hear my voice;  and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” – John 10:16

I believe in using means to send the gospel out but if our methods and means begin to look like advertising, then I believe it is positively wrong and brings reproach upon the gospel.  And if we think it is our methods and means that have brought God’s people in, we are dead wrong!

The Truth is not a thing which we must market or advertise as we would a product for sale.  Those that do so, show little regard for the Holy Spirit and His power to draw all men to hear the gospel.  Does that mean that we should  forsake all means of trying to get people to hear or read the Truth?  NO.  But we must guard against presenting the Truth in such a way as to cheapen it and make it appear to be a commodity or product offer available to the general public if they will have it.  It is not!  Christ said: My sheep hear my voice!   And they shall!. . . All of them!. . .  With or without us!  Certainly without our help, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, who sovereignly brings, convinces and regenerates all for whom Christ died.

What made me think of all this was an illustration that happened to me.  I was sitting in the study looking at the birds feeding on a feeder hanging outside the window.  I only recently hung that feeder out there and it wasn’t 24 hours until the birds started congregating.  I thought, “now, who told them that food was there?  How did they find it so quickly?”   I know Who!  And I know Who calls His people into the fold, to congregate with the sheep and feed at the gospel table! It is the Great Shepherd.  All this gives me hope and comfort that, though God uses means, yet it is not up to the means.  And though God may use me, He will still work IN SPITE OF ME.  Pastor Paul Mahan

God makes his child “satisfied with the goodness of thy house.”  He satiates us with the fatness of his house so that we are content to remain under the gospel with our brethren until the day we awake with Christ’s likeness. (Ps 36:8; 65:4)

DRINK YOUR MILK!

Isaiah 60: 16: Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

When I was a child I remember my mother always saying to me, “Drink your milk!”  We lived on a dairy farm across from the milk barn.  I remember watching the cows being milked, following the milk as it travelled through clear tubes into a stainless steal vat.  Talk about fresh milk!  There is only one other milk I have ever tasted that was better than that fresh milk and that is the gospel of Christ.

That’s right!  The word of God preached in truth is milk for God’s people.  The apostle Peter said, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Pet 2:2).  In this verse, God made promise to his elect among the Jews that they would hear the gospel preached from God’s elect Gentiles, “Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles.”  He promised they would hear the gospel preached from those Christ had made kings unto God by his precious blood, “And shalt suck the breast of kings.”  This is how each of God’s elect are born again of the incorruptible seed.  It is by hearing the gospel of Christ preached from those God has already given faith.  The sure result of drinking this milk is “Thou shalt know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob” (Is 60: 16).   God gives his people this unbreakable promise, “Thou shalt know!” Believer, we have an unction from the Holy One and we know all things. (1 Jn 2: 20) We know all things when the Spirit makes us personally know “that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”   Oh the comfort to be able to say assuredly that the LORD God is my Savior and my Redeemer!  What blessing to know that Christ purchased me, personally, with his own blood.

Believer, are you troubled by the cares and trials of this life?  The sincere milk of the word comforts us by making us know that there is no safer, more secure place than being under the constant care of our Lord Jesus, “the mighty One of Jacob!”  So I say to you what my mother said to me all those years ago, “Drink your milk!”
