AT
HIS FEET
(From the sermon
“Two Debtors” preached by Charles Spurgeon)
Luke 7: 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a
sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought
an alabaster box of ointment, 38: And stood at his feet behind him weeping…
Our Lord was reclining at his
meal, and his feet were turned towards the door, so that she did not have to
come far into the house before she reached his feet; and there she stood, “at
his feet.” Those are blessed words: “at his feet.” That is the place
where we also would stand and weep. That is the place where we would sit and
learn. That is the place where we would wait and serve. That is the place where
we hope to live and reign for ever: “at his feet.”

DEEPER
THAN THE STAIN
Dark the stain
that soiled man's nature,
Long the distance that he fell.
Far removed from hope and heaven,
Into deep despair and hell.
But there was a fountain opened,
And the blood of God's own Son,
Purifies the soul and reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone!
Chorus
Praise the Lord
for full salvation,
God still reigns upon His throne.
And I know the blood still reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone.
Conscious of the
deep pollution,
Sinners wander in the night,
Tho' they hear the Shepherd calling,
They still fear to face the light.
This the blessed consolation,
That can melt the heart of stone,
That sweet Balm of Gilead reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone!
All unworthy we
who've wandered,
And our eyes are wet with tears;
As we think of love that sought us
Through the weary wasted years.
Yet we walk the holy highway,
Walking by God's grace alone
Knowing Calv'ry's fountain reaches
Deeper than the stain has gone!
When with holy choirs
we're standing
In the presence of the King,
And our souls are lost in wonder,
While the white robed choirs sing;
Then we'll praise the name of Jesus,
With the millions round the throne;
Praise Him for the pow'r that reaches,
Deeper than the stain has gone!

LIKE A CHILD
“Verily I say
unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not
enter the kingdom of heaven.” Mt. 18:3
One of the
wonderful and amazing things about little children is their implicit trust and
confidence in their parents. They only need a simple statement or
promise from Mom or Dad as the foundation of that trust and
confidence. Lengthy explanations are not required nor asked
for. Simply make them a promise and sincere belief and trust springs
up in their hearts. How is this manifest? They follow Mom
and Dad around living on that promise, continually reminding them of it, and
awaiting its fulfillment!
Isn’t that the way the children of God
live before their heavenly Father? “These all died in faith, not
having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded
of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims
on the earth” (Heb. 11:13). Pastor Maurice Montgomery

A
KEY CALLED PROMISE
In Pilgrim’s Progress when
Christian and Hopeful were cast into the dungeon of despair in Doubting Castle
under the captivity of the giant, after a long time broken and beaten in that
dungeon, Christian broke out in “a passionate speech.” He said, “[Why] am I, thus to lie in a
stinking dungeon when I may as well walk at liberty! I have a key in my bosom, called Promise,
that will, I am persuaded, open any lock in Doubting Castle. Then said Hopeful that’s good news: good
brother, pluck it out of thy bosom, and try.”
Of course, the key opened the door and they walked free.
Brethren, when we are in that dungeon of
despair remember, we have a key called Promise—God’s everlasting covenant
promise. David’s last words were, “Although my house
be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered
in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire,
although he make it not to grow.” (2 Sa 23:5)
That is the key called Promise that will open any lock in Doubting
Castle!
