Title: God Who Daily Loads Us
Text: Ps 68: 19

Psalm 68: 19: Blessed
be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the
God of our salvation. Selah.
We saw this speaks of Christ—believer, Christ is “the God of our
salvation. Selah.” As verse
20 says, “He that is our God is the God of salvation.” Is Christ “your” God? Can you speak of him as “my” God?
In every way that his people need to be
saved, Christ is our salvation. Salvation
has always been in Christ’s hands. He
has always been the God of our salvation. He accomplished redemption and is now
ascended as the GodMan of our salvation.
As verse 17 shows Christ is in the midst of his legions of angels who
are all dispatched by him for our protection.
The people and events of this earth are ruled and disposed of by Jesus
our God. Satan can do nothing but by Christ’s
permission. Our Lord Jesus Christ exercises his dominion at all times for the
salvation of his people—"He is the God of our salvation.”
Psalm
3:8: Salvation belongeth unto the Lord.
Psalm
37:39: the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord.
Isaiah 25:9: And it
shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him and He
will save us: this is the Lord; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and
rejoice in His salvation.
Psalm 68: 19: Blessed
be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the
God of our salvation. Selah.
Subject: God Who Daily Loads Us
Proposition: God is the God of our salvation and there
are two ways God daily loads his people.
HE DAILY LOADS US WITH BENEFITS
Our Lord daily loadeth us with benefits in that he bestows
benefits on us who are his daily. Here is
the nature of God’s gifts: their frequency “daily”; their number—he “loadeth
us”—abundantly; and they are “benefits”—not something we deserve or
earned but his free gifts of grace.
One, Christ daily loadeth us with the means of grace: he sent us
the preaching of the gospel in spirit and in truth and continues to do so
daily.
Proverbs 8: 34: Blessed is the man that
heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
The preaching of the gospel is the means God is pleased to use to save
sinners and continue to save us all our days—through this means God says, “no
flesh shall glory in his presence but he that glories will glory in the Lord”—it
is all of the Lord.
It is a great benefit our Redeemer gave to you younger believers to be born
to believing parents who pressed upon you the importance of assembling together
under the preaching of the gospel—thank and adore and praise God that he loaded
you with that benefit. And it is a great
benefit when God does not move you but moves the gospel to you—bless
be God that he loads his people with that benefit.
Two, God daily loadeth us with the blessings of grace. God our Father through Christ his Son sent
forth the Holy Spirit and gave—"unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of him” (Eph 1: 17)
1 Corinthians 2:12: Now we have received, not
the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we
might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
We were spiritually
dead—he gave us life. Each one he saves
was spiritually blind—he gave us sight.
We were deaf—he gave ears to hear.
All God’s elect are, by nature, ignorant of God and his salvation—he took
of the things of Christ and showed them unto us.
He teaches his people how God loaded us with benefits from eternity. How he freely, undeservingly chose us unto
salvation. How he predestinated us to
the adoption of children. How that because
you are sons he sent forth the Spirit of his son into our hearts crying, Abba,
Father. How all his benefits are in and
by Christ Jesus.
Romans 8: 29: For whom he did foreknow, he also did
predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the
firstborn among many brethren. 30: Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also
called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them
he also glorified. 31: What shall we then say to these things? If God be for
us, who can be against us?
Believer think of the
benefit—"the riches of his glory”—that he has loaded you with. You are one of his “vessels of mercy which he
had afore prepared unto glory” (Rom 9:
23) Before creating the world he wrote your
name in the Lamb’s book of life (Rev 21:27). Christ entered covenant for his people and
became the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world—God never looked to us only
to Christ our Surety
Then in time God gave
us the unspeakable benefit—CHRIST REDEEMED OUR LIFE FROM DESTRUCTION BY HIS OWN
BLOOD (Ps 103: 1,2, 4). Oh what a
benefit he loaded us with! Redemption is
valuable, priceless because Christ shed his precious blood. And he did not do it for everybody, only for his
people.
Also, Christ loads us daily with the benefits of growing in the knowledge
of him. He continual teaches us that
Christ is the God of our salvation. Christ
is God omnipotent—the GodMan has all power in heaven and in earth. He is
omnipresent—Christ said, “Lo, I am with you always.” He is God Immutable—"Jesus the
same yesterday, today and forever.”
Christ is God triumphant—in Christ, his people have full, complete forgiveness
and pardon of all our sins.
Furthermore, God our
Savior daily loads us with the benefits of growth in grace—in the fruit
of the Spirit—"in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, Meekness, temperance.” He does so
while daily delivering us from the body of this death. Christ will not allow sins to reign over us
in judgment, nor in our sin-nature. He
is ever teaching, guiding, correcting, growing us in grace, making us abhor our
sins and love godliness
Now think on this
growth. Could we make our babies learn
to walk any faster or grow any faster? They
only grow as fast as God grows them. The
same is true with his children, our brethren.
We ought never get discouraged or discontented with one another because God
is daily loading his children with the benefits of growth in grace—but we only
grow as fast as God grows us. But daily he
continues to load us with these benefits—preserving us, keeping us by his power—through
the preaching of his gospel and his good providence
Lastly, our God loadeth
us daily with all temporal benefits.
When the Lord Jesus sent his ministers out to preach the gospel he gave
them no necessities and no instruction to provide for themselves. The Lord Jesus asked them “Lacked ye
anything? And they said, Nothing.” He sent them out empty but the Lord Jesus
went before them in Spirit. Christ opened
the hearts of brethren to provide for them.
He “daily loaded them with benefits” so that they lacked nothing!
Israel wandered in
the wilderness 40 years, Moses said, “these forty years the LORD thy God hath
been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.” (Deu 2: 7)
Elijah was in a land of famine but—1 Ki 17:6: And the ravens brought him
bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he
drank of the brook.
The woman and her son had a little meal and oil, Elijah said give me a
little cake first—1 King 17:15: And she went and did according to the saying of
Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days. 16: And the barrel
of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of
the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
Brethren, what would you answer if your Savior asked you today, “Lacked
ye anything?” All God’s saints answer the same, “Nothing. the God of our
salvation daily loadeth us with benefits.”
We say with David in
Psalm 23:1: The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall
not want
Psalm 34: 9: For there is no want to them
that fear him. 10: They that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing
That goes for tomorrow the same as yesterday and today—“daily” he
“loadeth us with benefits.” Paul
said
Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply
all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
HE DAILY LOADETH US
There is another meaning to this verse.
Notice the italics are added by the translators. The original means, “He daily loadeth us” as
into load us onto himself so as to carry us.
Notice he led captivity captive and then he daily loadeth us. Now read Isaiah 46. Here he contrasts how that man’s idol gods
have to be carried and how they do not deliver out of captivity but bring into
captivity. Then God says but I carry
you. The capitalized word is the same
word in our text.
Isaiah 46: 1: Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the
beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they
are a burden to the weary beast. 2: They stoop, they bow down together;
they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity. 3:
Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel,
which are BORNE by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
4: And even to your old age I am he; and even to
hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will
carry, and will deliver you.
Man’s idol gods cannot
carry them. Self-righteous men
confess their god cannot deliver without man’s help. They go into captivity themselves. But Christ our ascended victorious Redeemer
says you have been borne by me from the belly, I carried you from the womb. And I will carry you until old age: I have
made you, I will bear you; I will carry you AND will deliver you.
He is the God of our
salvation—who daily loadeth us upon his shoulder. We are assured he will bear us to the end because
he already bore the tremendous weight of all our sins and judgment on the cross. Our sins are the real burden that bows us
down.
1 Peter 2:24 [But Christ] his own self bare our sins in his own body on
the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose
stripes ye were healed.
What a load he already bore—all the sins of all his elect all on him at
one time.
Isaiah 53: 4: Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:….6:…the
LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all….11:…by his knowledge shall my
righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12: Therefore
will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with
the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered
with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for
the transgressors.
Brethren, knowing Christ has borne the load of our sin away and justified
us, knowing he declares us uncondemnable in Christ, we know he will carry us all
the way into glory. That is the
assurance of our text—“Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us, even the
God of our salvation.”
Contentment is having him—the God of our Salvation is more than food and
raiment. He bore us from eternity, bore
us on the cross, bore us from my mother’s womb.
And Christ will carry us until our salvation is complete. HAVING
HIM AS THE GOD OF OUR SALVATION—DAILY CARRYING US AND DAILY LOADING US WITH
BENEFITS—THAT IS CONTENTMENT!
Christ says, “Come
unto me all ye that weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest!”
Psalm
55:22: Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never
suffer the righteous to be moved.
Isaiah
40: 11: He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with
his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with
young.
We sing brother John
Newton’s words,
“Through many
dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come,
‘Tis grace hath
brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead
me home.
The Lord has promised
good to me,
His Word my hope
secures.
He will my shield and
portion be
As long as life
endures.
And, when this heart
and flesh shall fail,
And mortal life shall
cease,
I shall possess
within the veil,
A life of joy and
peace.”
Amen!
