FORGIVEN FORGIVE

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The God we sin against requires no other sacrifice than a broken and contrite heart.  When we come to God confessing our sins from such a heart God will not scorn us with disdain and contempt—"A broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise” (Ps 51: 17).  Instead, our Father is faithful and just to forgive us because Christ bore the just contempt of our curse.  Therefore, by the grace of God, let not the wretch who God has forgiven so many debts, for the sake of Christ, hear his broken-hearted brother confess his faults to him and scorn that one for whom Christ died, requiring some other sacrifice.  If we are forgiven of God then let us forgive.

FORGIVENESS

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:32).

The fact that we constantly need Divine forgiveness ought to encourage us to  forgive. Another may do many things for me, but no man can forgive my  enemies but I MYSELF! You may say, “I will never forgive.” Then, for your  sake, I hope you never sin!

Forgiveness is not only something I owe to others, it is something I owe to  myself. And I do myself great harm by holding grudges.

WHAT GOD SAYS GOES.

Is That Scriptural?

  1. God said, “Let there be light,” and the Bible says, “and there was light.”  (Genesis 1:3)

  1. Christ said, “Peace be still,” and the scriptures declare, “and the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39)

  1. Our Lord called, “Lazarus, come forth,” and the Bible immediately responds and says, “and he that was dead came forth.” (John 11:43-44)

Our Lord through the prophet Isaiah said,  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) It sure sounds to me like what God says goes.                                                               Pastor David Eddmenson

GOD’S WORKS AND THOUGHTS

Many, 0 Lord, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done and Thy thoughts which are to usward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered (Ps. 40:5).

No matter what our feelings or our circumstances, there is always something in the scriptures to meet our need or express what we feel. David, in this verse, expresses my feelings. All any of us have to do to see the wondrous works of God toward us is to just look around us. Has He not preserved us, kept us from falling, and met all of our needs both temporally and spiritually? Look at His wonderful works toward us as a church! He has indeed done a wondrous work for us as a body of believers. Just consider where we were just a few short years ago. When I do, my heart melts in gratitude and is filled with joy.

Let us offer thanks to Him for every trail and every tear, for every mountain and every valley - for every bit of rejoicing and every bit of sorrow, for every bit of ease and every bit of struggle, for every step, every breath, every moment, that has brought us to this place and time!  0 Lord, our God and Savior, give us of your grace that we may honor and magnify the truth of your grace given us in your Son. 0 Lord, renew our zeal, renew our determination to be true to the One True and Living God and Jesus Christ whom you Sent to be the sacrifice and substitute for sinners like us.  Lord, enable us to guard our fellowship as brethren, that we would always enjoy peace and harmony and unity of purpose and heart as a church family. Lord also let us always love one another and be kind and gracious one to another, as we remember the Great Love wherewith you Loved us and Gave Yourself for us.  Pastor Donnie Bell

THE UNCHANGEABLE LOVE AND FORGIVENESS OF GOD

Jeremiah 33: 8: And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me. 9: And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.

No matter who we sin against all our sins are against God. Yet God never ceases to love those he foreordained before the world was.  Amazing grace!  The very God we have sinned against cleanses us of all our iniquity and forgives us of all our sin.  It is by this great forgiveness that God makes a name unto his people.  God’s forgiveness and goodness makes his people repent and fear God—"If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared” (Ps 130:3-4)

Brethren, I am preaching to myself.  Christ teaches us to be children like our Father in forgiving one another’s sins without limit and in being fervent in love for one another—"above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins” (1 Pet 4:8).  We are sinners.  Therefore, we will hurt one another at times.  It is no excuse, just fact!  Expect it but try not to be disappointed by it.  But consider how God says to us, “I remember your sins no more.”

Instead of thinking on a brother’s offenses against me, it helps if we think of how great our sins are against God.  Then think on the everlasting love and tender mercies that God has shown in cleansing and pardoning all our sins.  It is these things that Paul told us to think on when he said, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise [if I am truly a child of God], think on these things” (Php 4:8)  This is how we keep love fervent and continue to forgive the sins of our brethren.
