Proverbs 13: 1: A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.  The sons of God made wise by God making Christ our Wisdom hear our heavenly Father’s instruction.  Even if we must be rebuked, God’s wise sons hear the word preached and the Spirit of God brings us to hear the instruction and submit.  But a scorner heareth not rebuke.  The definition of a scorner is one who hears rebuke in God’s word but becomes offended and uses every excuse from blaming the preacher to blaming God so that they can to defend sin against God.  The definition of a wise son is one who hears our heavenly Father’s instruction and submits; the definition of a scorner is one who hears rebuke and rebels against God and his people.

RELIGION AND ETERNAL LIFE – THE DIFFERENCE

Romans 8:38-39

Religion is to know biblical facts; life is to know God (I John 5:20).  Religion is to know what I believe; life is to know Whom I believe (II Timothy 1:12).  Religion is to be baptized into the church; Life is to be baptized into Christ (Romans 6:3).  Religion is to be reformed, life is to be regenerated (John 3:3).  Religion is to be a new convert; life is to be a new creature in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17).  A man was asked, “And what is your religious persuasion?”  He replied, “I am persuaded that nothing can separated me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

THE END OF ARGUING

Men have long loved to argue about Biblical truths.  I freely confess that I avoid those arguments like the plague.  There is no benefit in debating God’s truth with an unregenerate person.  It is impossible to prove the existence of light to a blind person.  The best thing we can do for lost souls is preach the gospel to them and leave them alone with God. All argument will stop when Christ is pleased to reveal Himself because when Christ is revealed there is submission to Christ.  No one will ever argue about man’s freewill, God’s crown right to elect a people to save, Christ’s limited atonement for His elect people, or the eternal salvation of God’s elect if they have submitted themselves to Christ the King.  The people still arguing against those truths are people who have not submitted to Christ. Before Christ died for his people, God’s justice demanded our death.  Since Christ died for his people, God’s justice demands he give us life.

 "Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness!"  (Isaiah 41:10)

God has arranged all our concerns with consummate wisdom, in the very best possible manner. He overrules all events by His omnipotent power. He directs all things by his paternal love.

     If infinite wisdom, omnipotent power, and paternal love, are engaged for our present and eternal welfare---then our fears must be groundless, and our anxiety folly. Our fears only …dishonor God, distress the mind, please Satan, and grieve the godly.

“What from Christ that soul shall sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him for ever;
Thus th' eternal covenant stands.”     John Kent

"My name from the palms of His hands

Eternity will not erase;

Impress'd on His heart it remains

In marks of indelible grace.

Yes, I to the end shall endure,

As sure as the earnest is given,

More happy, but not more secure,

The glorified spirits in heaven."  Augustus Toplady

CAIN AND ABEL

Genesis 4: 1-16

Did you know that all religions can be summed into two: the way of Cain or the way of Abel.  Cain represents the way that seems right unto men (Pro 14:12), the way of the flesh, the way of works, the way of self-righteousness, the way of self-glory.  Abel represents God’s way of mercy to undeserving sinners, the way of free grace (Rom 3:24), the way of substitution by a blood offering (2 Cor 5:21), the way of God-given faith (Heb 11:4; Acts 4:12).  Who made the difference?

    There was no difference in Cain and Abel according to their natural birth.  Both were sons of Adam.  Each were born with same corrupt nature of their father (Rom 5: 12).  Both were taught by Adam the promise of Christ to come, which God taught Adam in the garden (Gen 3: 15, 21, 24). Each came with an offering to the LORD.

    Yet, there was a difference in what they offered and why, “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.” (Heb 11: 4)  The difference was by God’s grace and gift alone, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2: 8-10)  Abel’s offering by faith was one of those good works God before ordained that Abel should walk in.  Therefore, God gave him faith and we read, “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.”  Cain’s offering was without blood (Heb 9: 22). That means Cain’s offering was without a confession of sin and inability and without faith in Christ the Substitute.  Cain offered his self-will, his pride and his unbelief unto the LORD.  By coming in the blood of a lamb, Abel confessed that he justly deserved to be slain because he was a ruined sinner.  Abel confessed that he believed that Christ was all his salvation by God's free, justifying grace.   Cain came trusting his works, Abel came trusting Christ.

     Therefore, who did God receive and reject? “And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. (Gen 4: 4-5)  The LORD accepted Abel in Christ the Beloved fully justified and righteous, holy and accepted of God.  But Cain was left in his sins.  The difference in these two is to the praise of God’s grace.  Any sinner who is different from any other sinner is different only by the difference God has made. For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (1Co 4:7)   The only two beliefs in the world throughout all time is grace and works. The way of Abel is the way of grace; the way of Cain is the way of works (Rom 11: 6) May God be pleased to make the difference in one of his lost sheep now!
